Yesterday there was a brownout in the area where my office is situated. It happened around 11:30 am. Usually the generator starts within few seconds in such kinda situation but yesterday the generator was out of order. So there was no electricity in our office. We were sitting in front of our pc without power in it :D I was missing talking with Liz because awhile ago I was talking with her through gmail chat though I had much workload :P We, all the coworkers, were sitting and gossiping but getting bored.
There is a lake near my workstation called Gulshan Lake. Suddenly one of my colleagues, Polin vi, proposed to have a boat trip in that lake. We were not agreeing with him at first. We were telling that the water is very dirty. But he kept bugging us and at last started to pester. Finally 3 of us agreed to go with him and I was one of those 3 persons :)
We went to the lake, hired a boat for 30 mins for 40 taka. We roamed around the lake for half an hour. There were so many slums around the lake. While on the boat Polin vi was shouting from time to time (actually singing but not in a nice tone :P ). The weather was gloomy and no wind at all. So it was a bit hot. Though the environment was not so good yet we enjoyed the trip; it was fun. Polin vi paid for the trip. So it became more pleasant for rest of us :P :P :P It was an exceptional refreshment during office hour which is rarely found :)

We broke a seat of the bus
While going to work this morning I had an interesting exprience. After taking the ticket I got in the bus, took my seat and was waiting for the bus to run. I noticed the back of my seat is less steeper than it should be. So I needed to lean backward a bit more to get the back of my seat to rest my own back. I noticed that the back rest was a bit flexible as well. Without thinking anything I put the whole weight of my back against it.
It was a seat for 3 persons. I was the first person there. In a while 2 other persons came, sit beside me and just like me they also put their back against the back of the seat. May be all 3 of us were thinking ohhh.. the seat is more comfortable... it's flexible enough... But suddenly uppppppppssssss... we were falling backward... aweeeee... the back of the seat broke :-O The persons sitting behind us just holded it. I was having hard time to hide my smile. I just went to another seat leaving that very flexible one :D the back of the seat was not totally departed from its body. So the 3 persons behind that seat had to hold that broken part with their hand all the way and I was smiling all the way sitting on another seat :D :D :D

I still love to walk
For some reason at the beginnig of March of this year I decided to to walk from the bus station to my home every evening when I returned home after my work. It takes only 20 minutes to pass that distance on foot. From the day of my start till now I walk that distance on every working day. This is an enjoyment for me.
I still love to walk very much.

Bela biscuit
Few days back I read a story where I came to know about a special biscuit(cookie) of Chittagong. The name of the cookie is Bela. I knew that Sadia apu's family lives in Chittagong and she spent most of the time of her life in Chittagong. So I asked her about it and she told me that the cookie is really famous in Chittagong.
In next weekend Sadia apu went to Chittagong to visit her family. On sunday next when she came to office after that weekend she gave me a bag with Bela Biscuit in it. I was so surprised but didn't forget to thank her :) Those cookies are a little bit hard but good. I like the look of the cookie more than its taste :P
Thnx again Sadia apu for Bela Biscuit.

I bought more raincoats
Yesterday it was raining heavily the whole day. It started in the morning and countinued the whole day with few short intervals. Most of my office mates came to work with a wet shirt. In the afternoon they were telling that raincoat is perfect for this type of stormy rain and most of them were very much interested to buy one soon. I just stood up and told them the name of the market(Polwell market) from where i have bought mine. Most of them didn't know that I have a raincoat. As they came to know it they wanted to see and I showed them and everybody liked it.. the color and also the size and shape. I was smiling as if "aha... I have a precious gem".
Suddenly the network administrator(I think you remember him.. the person I am
afraid of most) told "oh... shahid can buy it for all of us"... UPPPSSSS... I seemed helpless but couldn't deny them :( One by one came and requested me to buy for them. Total 5 persons requested me and 3 amongst them ordered 2 for each of them. So I get an order for 8 raincoats.
My boss told me to leave the office at 4 pm to go to the market because at 7 pm all the shops will be closed. I left the office around 4 pm and started my mission. I reached the market after a lot harassment because of the heavy rainfall and flooded roads. Finally I bought the raincoats with a very cheap rate as the number is 8.
This morning I came to work with those 8 raincoats tied together and people in the bus were very much annoyed by me as the pile of raincoats irritated them much. I was just keep saying sorry sorry... poor me.

I should be more carefull
I was going home from Shantinagar last night. It was raining heavily. The streets were flooded 10 inches deep and there was no vehicle. But you know I have raincoat :) I wore it and started to walk along the street. Suddenly a car came from opposite side. The road is not so wide so I just get myself aside and kept walking to give the car room to pass by... and suddenly aweeeeeeeeee... I found myself drowning. I just grab the edge of the street and pulled myself up, but by that time I was drowned up to my thigh. I just stand up and keep walking again after looking once to the place I just fell into.
I think you already got the real thing. Yes I fell into a manhole that do not have a cover :P The goddamn municiple corporation don't give that much attention to this :( Anything severe can happened. I could break my leg if the opening of the manhole was narrow but I am quite ok now coz I didn't get hurt :) The opening of that manhole is wide... thank God... You know whenever I just pulled myself on the street again 2 things came into my mind. The first thing that came to my mind was I am very lucky today :) I could be wounded but I wasn't. So I thank God at once. The second thing came into my mind was.... aaaaa... mmmmm.... ok no need to hear that ;) ;) ;)
You know this is not the first time in my life to fall into a manhole. It happened to me once :D I was in high school at that time and I was really wounded in that case.

A day in water kingdom
It was so hot in Dhaka last few days. So we, some of our friends, decided to dip into the water in Water Kingdom and wanted to have fun. The trip was arranged on last saturday. We were 9 in numbers went there in the afternoon around 2 pm and stayed the whole day inside the water kingdom.
In front of the entrance of Fantacy Kingdom
shishir is talking something funny as always
We were 7 in number at that time(1 is shooting the pic)
Other 2 were yet to arrive
In front of the Igloo House (a very funny one hehe :D)
If you get it for free then go for it otherwise don't.
Shishir at the gate of Igloo House
What is he doing :-? trying to be a polar bear :-?
We are entering into the Water Kingdom
In the pool... The depth of this pool is a bit less
Specially for the kids but you will find everyone there
Same pool... close look
The wave pool. The depth of this pool increases as you step forward.
Here you will find many couples kissing and doing something very awkward in front of everyone as if no one is seeing them.
Sitting on the start of the wave pool
Yet another picture in the wave pool just after the waves come to an end
Another pool in front of the dance zone
This one is a bit deeper
We were standing for the picture to be shot.
Suddenly Maroof jumped into the water just in front of us
I am showing thumbs up and look at the grin and the expression on others' faces. It simply says how we enjoyed.
We are in front of the spiral slides... the red one is the longest
This pool is just at the end of those spiral slides
Do I look like a kid :-? Anayway... sitting on those is interesting
We left the park in the evening around 0730 pm. All of us were tired, exhausted, hungry and thirsty... but we were very much happy... We spent a very joyful day there and really had fun :)

Party and get together of CITians
The lecturer boys of CIT '02 threw a party for all CITians. The venue was Sea Shell restaurant in Uttara. Almost all the CIT guys were present there. We were around 35 guys. We had a great get together and also had a great dinner. Various kinds of foods were served and the foods were very much delicious :D but I cant give the pictures of food cause everybody became busy in eating when the food was served :P So no one was there to shoot the pictures at that time :D
Me with shahan, my room-mate in IUT in all 4 years
Me with shishir, the most humorous guy of our batch
It's difficult to stop laughing if you are with him
Me sending sms to someone :)
The long table... there was another one as the same size of this one.
Everyone is waiting for the food to be served :D
Shishir and me in the the table gossiping and also waiting for the food
Hey... do i look so bad with that bald head??? Does nt it look like the head of Zinadine Zidane :P :P :P
The party was really awesome. We had fun. Everyone is busy these days so it's really difficult to arrange such a big gathering. Thanks those 4 boys to arrange this :)

I didn't pay for the food :(
I was on the way of home walking on the footpath after getting off the bus. I saw a hawker selling JHAAL BOOT(a local delicious food) on the footpath. I was a bit hungry. So I took one very small bowl of it costs 3 taka only and started eating standing there. I found it tasty. I almost finished eating while was thinking to take another one. Suddenly a policeman came grabbed the hawker by his collar took him into the police van and the van went away. I was at a loss. The big bowl full of JHAAL BOOT was still on the footpath. I was standing there. I didn't even pay him. I was hesitating what should I do. I waited there for 4 or 5 minutes and then started walking again without paying for the food I have eaten awhile ago.
Actually it's illegal to block the footpath for any kinda personal use or purpose. Yet I don't feel good seeing a JHALL BOOT seller being caught by the policemen just for standing on the footpath with his bowl. May be he had spent his last penny to prepare that food. So many illegal things are happening everyday in this country. The big shots can easily pass through but whoever gets caught?? A JHALL BOOT SELLER :(

Bangla letters on keyboard
I went to one of Bangla blog sites (somewhereinblog.com) where some of my friends write regularly. I found myself in great problem as I don't know Bangla typing :( So I asked one of my colleagues to help me writing a name. He came to my desk took the keyboard and started typing. He typed one letter and trying to remember the key for next letter, again he typed one letter and trying to remember and so on. After typing 4-5 letters he just looked at my keyboard and shouted "Hey the Bangla letters are written on your keyboard and you are asking me to type!!!". I looked at my keyboard and upsss... those are really written on my keyboard :P I looked at his face and at once both of us laughed out loudly hahahahaha...
Hey it was not my fault. I don't look at my keyboard while I type. So how can I be aware of the Bangla letters written on my keyboard? hehehe :D :D :D

Foreign visitors in our office
Today some foreign visitors(may be from Japan) were supposed to come to visit our office. I don know the exact reason. Our boss told us on last working day to be well dressed on this day. I am in full formal dress except the neck tie... black plain pant, white full-sleeve shirt, black socks and black shoe. But I found some of my senior colleagues in an eye-popping dress. I dont know why they became funny. By trying to be good looking so much?? May be they focused much on that :D Some look very funny with their extravagant dress and neck tie.
In the afternoon we got a news that the Japanese are not coming today. Everybody looks unhappy specially those who dressed extravagantly :D :D :D Our boss told that they will come later but didn't fix the date yet. Now my colleagues seemed a bit happy to hear that and this time also those who focused on dressing up more seemed more happy :D :D :D

Allure of letters in old days
Last tuesday(2 days ago) when I returned home after my work I saw my mom sitting on her bed along with so many papers jumbled in front of her. I just lay down on her bed and started gossiping. She was taking one piece of paper in her hand, read it for awhile (those were hand written) and then put it in a bag tenderly. I noticed the papers were pretty old. I asked her what were those... she smiled and replied those were documents. I asked again what documents those were... This time she smiled again and seemed a little bit shy... She told me that those were letters of her early age just after marrying my father... My father lived in Dhaka(the capital) for his work but my mom lived in our village after their marriage for almost 1 year. They used to write very often to each other cause there was no other alternative to communicate in those days... that was almost 40 years ago.
My mom showed some of the letters just to look at those. I amazingly noticed there were poems of 3 or 4 lines on the top of each letter and those were written of their own :) :) :) I was very much surprised to see those so my mom let me read some (not the letters, only the poems :D ) ... I found those are not poems of highest quality but full of emtoions... They tried their level best to express their feelings in those lines :) :) :)
It's really nice to know such kinda thing of own parents :) :) :) and I just shiver thinking how they felt when they received those letters from the postman.

Kids are amazing
Indian cricket team is in Bangladesh now. They are in a away tour for both oneday and test matches against us. My student Sanjana (English medium, grade 5) is a great fan of Rahul Dravid, the captain of Indian team. She saw him in person 2 days ago while the team was going to the stadium from Hotel Sheraton. She told her driver to go side by side with that bus as if she can see Rahul Dravid as long as she can cause the captain was sitting beside one window. Suddenly Dravid stared at the car may be because he was seeing that car for long time. He saw Sanjana and wave his hand. Sanjana just smiled but did nt wave her hand or say hello to him even though she is a die heart fan of him. I asked her why?? She just told me that she didn't want to make him pride himself much. I was surprised thinkin what is going on in her mind. Did she think that they came here to play against Bangladesh. So as a Bangladeshi girl she should not wave him or say hello. Did she think "why do I do that?? I should keep my own country above all" suppressing the intensed likeness of a person?? She is only a kid... what made her think in that way?? Patriotism???
I know it very well that there is no problem in waving to an Indian player as a Bangladeshi citizen. Still I feel great and became soooooooo happy hearing this thing from my student :) :)
Thanks Sanjana :)

I bought a raincoat :)
This morning I bought a raincoat. Does it sound a bit unusual?? I am asking cause one of my friends laughed at me when he saw it. And he laughed in such a way that I am a kid doing something childish and he is a grown up man found it interesting and smiled at me. Anyway... I don mind cause I found that I need this and it's better than umbrella.
Here it's not raining for a week may be. But the rainy season is ahead and I have to go to my work and other places in the rain. I like to have shower in rain sometimes but it's not so good while I am going to my office. So I need something to prevent me from getting wet and I think my raincoat will do that nicely :)

At last a new project
yesterday i was assigned to a new project of our company. Ahhhhh.... at last. Before that I was working in several projects but those are old- running in client side. May be some modification or problem solving. But this is the first time I am assigned to a totally new project that has been started from today. So I will be a part of it from the very beginning :)
Aarong, a very popular shop having many branches over the country, is gonna issue Loyalty card for their regular customers. Before I was thinking how many customers Aarong has?? not so many... but now I know they have hell lot of customers all over the country. My project manager said well..."There are many women in Gulshan & Dhanmondi whose first work after getting up from sleep in every morning is going to Aarong and shopping for 2-3 thousand taka :)". Aarong is very much willing to give some extra benefits to these customers :) They will get the Loyalty card after crossing a particular amount of buy. After that they can gain points in every penny they spend in any Aarong shop. Afterwards they will be benefitted based on those collected points.
Currently Aarong is using one software to manage their sales. That was also delivered by our company. Now this new one will be implemented along with the old one. Anyway... the analysis of the new project is going on... May be we two(me & sadia) will be asked to propose a database design after the analysis is done. Feeling good to have a new project :) :) :)

Hats off to potato crackers & ‘puri’ but….
There was a woman along with her nagging kid(age may be 3). Suddenly the kid started crying. I thought the kid was feeling discomfort with the hot environment of the bus. So I requested the woman to open the window beside her and she did so because the rain stopped by that time. But the kid kept on crying and I heard that he was asking for ‘muri’ or ‘puri’ (two local foods). Everyone was very much annoyed by the kid. I thought if I had some cookies or something else in my bag I would give him. Right at that moment one person gave the kid a cookie from his bag :) I thought ahhhhh… the kid will be quiet getting that cookie. But everyone noticed amazingly that he did not stop. He even did not take it from his mom. Then another person gave a bottle of water to the woman to give the kid. But the kid did not drink a single drop of water. He was crying and crying. He had been crying for almost half an hour.
Again it started raining. This time heavy rain…. cats and dogs. Some people got off from the bus in a stoppage. There was a heavy traffic jam at that time. Suddenly a man from outside the bus knocked the window beside the woman. The woman opened the window and the man gave her one packet of potato crackers(made by Bombay sweets), told her to give it to the kid and disappeared. That man was in the bus awhile ago. He bought it for the kid after getting off the bus. The woman was embarrassed by the situation and looked a bit shy. She gave the cracker to the kid n the kid stopped crying. Everyone in the bus was smiling. Hats off to potato crackers :)
The bus was still in the traffic jam. Suddenly we heard a voice at the gate of the bus. A man was saying “where is that boy that wanted to eat puri??” We saw with a great surprise that the man holding a packet of 5 ‘puri’ in his hand. He just passed the packet cause he could not get inner side of the bus because he was totally wet to get those ‘puri’. The boy hold one ‘puri’ in his hand and we saw a cute smile on his face. Hats off to ‘puri’ too :)
That man got off from the bus just to bring the ‘puri’ for the kid. He had to go at least 150 yards in that heavy rain to get those things. I became jealous of that kid. I wish I were that kid. I felt my sight became hazy. Still there are such kinda nice people exist on this earth. Hats off to potato crackers…hats off to ‘puri’… but what should we off for those nice people???
